Location - Travel to Lucca
Perfect for small groups (2-4 guests), the palazzo is ideally placed , a stone’s throw from Piazza Napoleone, and nearby to the restaurants, bars ,cafes and the shops and sights of the city. Lucca also makes the perfect touring base for discovering Tuscany with the beach at Torre del Lago and Viareggio only 30minutes away and Florence only an hour and ten minutes by bus! Siena and San Gimignano are less than ninety minutes drive away.
Lucca is largely pedestrianised and flat, the favoured mode of transport through its narrow medieval lanes is bicycle. (The use of two cycles are included in the rental price of the appartment)).Encircled by a huge wall over two miles in circumference ,on top of which is a road used soley by pedestrians and pushbikes, the city has much to discover by way of history, architecture, art and churches.
Only 30 minutes from Pisa airport Lucca is an all the year round destination with antique markets, festivals and concerts throughout the year and as befits the birthplace of Puccini, there is a year round festival of opera recitals in the church of San Giovanni plus a winter season of opera in Lucca’s own beautiful opera house. A summer series of concerts in Piazza Napoleone each year has attracted top UK and American rock acts. Concerts in 2007 included shows by George Michael,Elton John,Joss Stone and Norah Jones.. In winter an ice skating rink provides entertainment for more active visitors. (The ski slopes at Abetone are only an hours drive away)
One of the great advantages of Lucca is the fact that it is a living and working small city that absorbs visitors but is not overwhelmed by them and this brings many benefits including excellent restaurants where prices are reasonable rather than touristic.
